Tips From Other Dancers To You
If you have a suggestion for a dancer
please email it to
clickyfeet@hotmail.com , also make
sure the spelling and grammar is fine so people can read it please.
(I'm not one to talk :D)
The first thing I can say is PRACTICE,
PRACTICE, PRACTICE!!!!!!! I swear, it works! :o) And when you
practice, practice the ugly parts the most, because you already know
you can do the pretty parts easily! :o) !! You got to have guts and
just ATTACK them, because I know, they're scary, and everyone hates
to work on them!!

I know this is the most unreasonable
attempt ever, but try and SLEEP before a feis! I know! It seems
hard, but what I do, is I practice all my dances that I'm going to
compete, over and over, so that I make myself tired! If that doesn't
help, try jump roping, jogging, or some kind of physical activity to
make yourself tired! I also heard that warm milk with honey in it
will calm your nerves and help you sleep. A warm bath would help
too, both before (to calm nerves), and after the feis. (to
congratulate yourself, OR to comfort yourself...which ever one you
need!)

To keep from slipping, put hairspray
on your soft shoes before you dance, and duct tape on your hard
shoes. Duct tape also helps if you have a huge hole in your shoe!
Just stick it on the inside of your shoe, and voila!!!!!

Oh, one more thing... I've recently
discovered this...DO NOT PRACTICE DANCING IN OPEN-TOED
SANDALS!!!!!!! I was practicing my hard shoe, with plenty of toes in
it, and all of a sudden, my toe felt sticky! I looked down and it
was covered in blood...I had ripped the nail back, almost half way!
eww, yucky, I know, but now you know what'll happen!!! It was one of
the smartest things I've ever did...she says sarcastically.

When going to a feis, bring lots of
money for many reasons. First of all, there's so much cool Irish
dancing merchandise there that you'll be so tempted to buy and
secondly, you never know what will happen. At my first feis, my soft
shoes ripped from the whole side down. Thank god they had soft shoes
there. Yeah, my shoe had a little hole in it, but I never expected
the whole thing to rip! So, you never know what will happen!

Always, always, ALWAYS buy the type of
music you will be competing with to get the timings right! (I cannot
express that enough) Judges judge you most on your timing, I think
at least. So, always be one step ahead, and know your timing!

When practicing gets boring, what i
like to do is pretend I'm Bernadette Flynn. It really works! You
have to practice one way or another, so why not make it fun. I
always go in my basement, turn on the strobe light and turn on
Bernadette's music! LOL. Now you don't have to pretend your
Bernadette, Gillian Norris, jean butler, Eileen martin, etc. are
great to impersonate too! :0)
Darcy one more time!!!!

Practice a lot for a feis the week
before. Then the day before it, practice a little bit and SLEEP! If
you have time practice each dance once or twice before the feis. (If
you don't have to leave your house at 7:30 am!)

my tip is if you are really nervous
about an upcoming feis, don't practice the day before it. or if it
is a rally big feis, don't practice 3 days before it. I know that it
sounds really crazy, but it works. I never practiced before a feis
and I was placing 1st in every dance at every feis that I competed
in! Really, you guys got to trust me!
