The Dances
The reel
The reel is a dance with 2/4 and the
speed can vary from slow to extremely fast. We tend do dance it at a
fast speed (but not too fast) The reel is a main dance of a
competition and usually takes up the whole dance floor as you need
to use the floor or you may lose marks for just staying on the one
spot. Also this may cause you to be cut up by another dancer. It
also helps a lot if you use jumps so you can go very far with each
beat.
The light Jig
Jigs are usually the first dance
learned. They are in 6/8 time and are always done individually.
Light jigs or soft shoe jigs are usually simple but elegant dances.
Even the first step to a non-dancer looks complicated, but it is
easily learned. Once you have learn this you must make sure that
when competing you use the floor.
The single jig also known as the hop
jig
This is very similar to the light jig
if you go by the music as the speeds exactly the same the only
differences is the notes that are played on the instrument.
The Slip Jig
This Dances is only for girls as it
was invented along time ago for them as boys used to only
dance and that's how it developed for the girls. It is very hard to
learn as there are intricate steps and its longer so stamina is
needed. A Slip Jig is done in 9/8 time
