Boys Point Of View On Dancing
Boys
There has always been a debate about who has it
easier when dancing. Below is the boys side of the story. In
competition boys always seem to qualify for the world championships
easier because there are less in there age group. Here is my Honest
Point of view on Irish Dance.
Boys Point Of View:
When I first started Irish Dance I was 11 and
the steps where hard to pick up. I had to learn it all from my big
sisters which were going dancing from the age of 6 and 8. The shoes
I had to wear were awful and I could hardly dance without falling
over or tripping up on my heals. It was hard work but as the year
went on I learnt to deal with it and I was able to dance all my
dances neatly and polished well at least good enough to watch. I
went to my first every competition and went from novice to
intermediate and went home that day with a major smile on my face.
The next competition I had to go to was a bit harder as there were
people I hadn't seen before and it was a bit bigger than usual. I
managed to get in high places like 3rd and 4th but never 1st and
this was dancing against girls that were just going into open as
there steps were really intricate with lots of flashy moves about
the stage and big high jumps. The next stop was the British
Nationals, a very big competition for Irish Dancers as the first few
places get to go to the worlds. I danced my first 2 rounds and then
had to wait for the recall, which was very frustrating and worrying.
I never got the recall at this big event as there were about 30 in
my age group compared to the girls. I decided to go to the Great
Britain Championships and never got the recall again. It was really
hard and most boys were from Ireland for a change. I really had to
work my butt over the next few months and really got my rhythm in my
heavies up to scratch for the Oireachtas , which was the qualifying
for the world championships. You wouldn't believe it but I got 4th
place and I qualified for the world championships. I got 36th at
the worlds and that was it. I haven't got to the worlds ever since,
because I have got 4th at the Oireachtas ever since. After that year
they let 3 qualify every year which was pretty unlucky for me.
Irish Dance is so much fun for me. I really
enjoy the competition and watching the girls dance. The best part is
meeting the girls ;)
Hope this makes more boys want to dance because
I can tell you its worth it when you think about all the shows you
could go into and how much the girls will like you if you got into a
show tee he.
The Worst thing about the dancing would have to
be wearing those boys reel shoes. I find that by putting a soft
piece of sponge, which isn't noticeable, at the back of your heel.
It protects you from getting any blisters yet its comfy. Try it out
it works quite well. One more thing lol. When you get boys reel
shoes make sure that you get elastics for them, which is a piece of
elasticized material which goes round the under sole of your shoe
and the heel. These keep your shoe on really well.
